CamStudio 2.6 Source Code Now Available Via SourceForge SVN

July 2nd, 2008 · 4 Comments

This is something I’ve been meaning to get done for months now, but finally I got around to getting some help.

Last month a CamStudio user, Carlo Lanzotti sent me a version of CamStudio with a number of fixes but he lost the full list of changes and fixes he made.

This is the list he sent me:

[BUG FIXES]

- Fixed the option saving bug, now all the options in the configuration dialogs are saved correctly.

- Fixed the swf/html generation bug that created an html file with bad height/width.

- Fixed minor/major bugs here and there.

[NEW FEATURES]

- Added Support for compiling with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 (Should work on the Express too). Just open the vscap.sln and build it.

- Added a basic setup script for use with InnoSetup 5.x (www.innosetup.com).

He also made a good point …

Some other changes and bug fixes where made but unfortunately the full list where lost. Better to use a source code version control for future development (e.g. svn). (Maybe there is already something like this?)

This prompted me to finally pull my finger out and get this setup.

So, for all you coders out there who’d like to start playing properly - now’s your chance.

http://sourceforge.net/svn/?group_id=131922

This version should be thought of as V2.6 - even though it’s still showing as 2.5, so please amend your code and binaries accordingly.

Any fixes and features you’ve added to the 2.0 and 2.5 sources may need to be applied to 2.6.

Sorry it took so long to set this up, but I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys and can now.

Cheers

Nick :)

Possible Workaround For “Waveout” Error on Vista?

March 14th, 2008 · 6 Comments

“mcclenj” just posted this as a comment, which I thought I’d post here so everyone can see it …

Okay, this is TOTALLY the solution for Vista users, anyone who gets the “WaveoutGet…blah blah” error, who only hears static on the audio, etc. At least it worked for me.

All you gotta do is open up your Sound control panel, click on the “Recording” tab, then right-click anywhere in the menu that shows all your recording devices. You should see the options “Show Disabled Devices” and “Show Disconnected Devices” each with or without a check-mark. Make it so that both of these are checked, especially Disabled Devices, and a new item should appear, the “Stereo Mix”. Once that’s enabled, and your other microphone(s) are disabled, CamStudio works FINE as if it was recording from speakers.

AWESOME. And I’m totally un-technologically savvy, just lucked onto this, so take that all you programmers and dorks. That is, if it works for anybody else.

OK, peeps - is “mcclenj” a superstar or does he suck like a Dyson on steroids? Test the method and vote below … ;)

P.S. Got some really cool news coming soon - keep ‘em peeled …

We’re Back - WAHOOO!

January 18th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Sorry about the extended downtime …

Turns out my webhost thought one of their MySQL servers had suffered a hack and promptly shut it down.

Unfortunately all my websites using blogs (CamStudio too) and anything remotely dynamic used that database server and so everything went dark - including my mailing list software, so I couldn’t even update everyone as to what was going on.

Anyway …

We’re back online now and I’ll look into moving my mailing list onto another service so I can keep you in the loop.

Apologies, once again.

Cheers

Nick :)

Okey Doke - you wanted it, so here it is:

Tutorial - How To Pan And Zoom In CamStudio

September 14th, 2007 · 13 Comments

Here’s a quick video showing how to obtain pan and zoom effects with CamStudio.

Panning is built into CamStudio, but zooming isn’t (yet!) so in the meantime, I used a freeware third-party application called Magnifying Glass which you can get from http://www.workerscollection.com

CamStudio 2.5 Beta 1 Released

September 6th, 2007 · 116 Comments

Hi All

I haven’t heard from Marcus who’s currently working on 2.6 for 3 weeks now.

I don’t want development on CS to stall, nor do I want all the “pressure” on one person to deliver, so I’ve decided to make CamStudio 2.5 available and class it as a Beta 1 release.

You can download the binaries and full source code from here:

http://www.camstudio.org/dev

CamStudio.2.5.b1.bin.zip <- Binaries (download this if you want to use it)

CamStudio.2.5.b1.src.zip <- Source Code For CamStudio Recorder, SWF Producer and CamStudio Player

MultiLang.src.zip <- Source Code For the Multi-Language feature

Here’s a link to a quick video explaining which files are which.

Here are the changes and fixes:

CAMSTUDIO RECORDER

  • Recording Region By Window - ADDED
  • Left and Right Mouse Button Visual Feedback When Clicked - ADDED
  • True Multi-Language Support For Recorder, SWF Producer, and Player - ADDED
  • Recording Audio From Speakers - REMOVED DUE TO LACK OF SOURCE CODE
  • Recording For A Preset amount of time - ADDED
  • New Effects Menu added with:
    • Add System Time Stamp To Video
    • Add Caption To Video
    • Add Watermark To Video (Transparancy not supported, yet!)

SWF PRODUCER

  • Added Redirect URL function so a viewer can be taken to another URL immediately after video has finished playing.
  • Added Cancel button to “Converting to SWF” dialog so you can cancel a SWF conversion at any time. You don’t have to wait until it’s finished or force it to close with CTRL, ALT, DEL.

OUTPUT

  • Firefox bug when playing a Flash SWF file - FIXED

OUTSTANDING STUFF

  • When using another language, some menus and options are either missing or still in English.
  • Native Vista compatibility not supported, but workaround listed on the blog using XP Compatibility Mode.
  • Documentation (still working on it)

I haven’t included the documentation with this Beta release, but the additional features are extremely simple to use I’m sure you won’t have any problems (famous last words?)

If you’d like to help with any aspect of the CamStudio project, I’m currently looking for:

  • Visual C++ and Macromedia Flash Coders [URGENT]
  • Graphic Designers for the Flash Player Controls
  • Moderators for the upcoming Forum.

If you’re interested, please email me at: info {at} instantsupersites {dot} com

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Nick :)

UPDATE: If you get the following error message when trying to run the Beta  …

“This application failed to start because MFC71.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.”

do the following:

1. Go back to http://www.camstudio.org/dev and download the MFC71.dll file into the folder where you have the 2.5 Beta binaries and try running CamStudio again.

2. If that doesn’t work, copy the MFC71.dll to your “C:\Windows\System32″ directory and reboot your computer.

Thanks to Stacy for pointing this out.

Upgrading Wordpress To 2.2.2

September 3rd, 2007 · 1 Comment

Just a quick note to say I’m about to upgrade the CamStudio blog to the latest version of Wordpress, 2.2.2

If it all goes horribly wrong, I’ll try to minimize any possible downtime.

I’ve backed up the DB and current files, so if the worst happens it should be simple for me to recover.

Anyway, keep everything crossed for me …

UPDATE: It looks like everything works as it should. I also took the liberty of changing the theme to Cutline.
