^_^ Yep. It works in every sound-recording program. This method also works in Win98SE, as it also has Volume Control for Recording, even without a Mic disabled or something (theres an enable/disable in Vista!? o.o;). We've been doing this method for a long time now, far before I read this topic.

But anyway, thanks for confirming it also works in CamStudio.

So like, in general, when we're recording audio by any software (even in MS's own Sound Recorder!), we should check the select checkbox of the one in the Recording Control window (Stereo Mixer, Mic, Line In, etc) we like recording sound from.

also I'd like to add that probably the reason is that I've installed the sp1 for visual studio 8 which I think it's a needed upgrade anyhow. So if that Carlo Lanzotti guy could be so kind to add support even for visual studio 2005 sp1 I'd really appreciate. Thanks.

unluckily it does not work with visual studio 2005. I just tried and it gives a lot of errors. I compiled the /trunk version. It's a shame, I really hoped for the vs8 support.

Hi Nick,

This is a wonderful tool indeed... I tried using the lossless codec and it captured my laptop's screen perfect.. I haven't seen a screen capture tool so crisp and clear!! I have one problem though that you might have an answer to.. I have Vista Home Premium as my OS.. When I record my voice using the microphone and try to playback the saved file, the player that comes with CS or any other player like WMP or Real just stops. It sends out a message that "COM surrogate just stopped working" and looking at the problem details It gives this message "Problem signature:
 Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
 Application Name:	DllHost.exe
 Application Version:	6.0.6000.16386
 Application Timestamp:	4549b14e
 Fault Module Name:	camcodec.dll
 Fault Module Version:	1.3.1.1
 Fault Module Timestamp:	3e700e34
 Exception Code:	c0000005
 Exception Offset:	000071c9
 OS Version:	6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
 Locale ID:	1033
 Additional Information 1:	3edc
 Additional Information 2:	3cf1cbf178c6b076d1b86b68b5060eba
 Additional Information 3:	5ec5
 Additional Information 4:	747f230851e92e73bef174e7cd34710a"...

If I dont select the lossless codec and have the microphone audio, I can playback the video, I can hear my voice but I have a very poor video quality that is very unstable and shaky...

I tried doing adjustments in the speaker like what was mentioned in the blog for stereo mix.. for version 2.0.. but in 2.5 I think this doesnt apply... I also tried running the application as compatible with windows xp... but still the problem persists..

Really appreciate it if you can help me make a clear video recording with audio at the same time, without the player stopping.. Just like the instructional videos you have here which are really great! Thanks for this wonderful tool and appreciate your thoughts on this.. :D

Note that if you're using Vista and want to install the Camstudio Lossless codec, you'll have to open up Windows Explorer as an administrator to get the "Install..." option when you right-click camcodec.inf. (go to Start->search for Windows Explorer->right-click and choose "run as administrator".

@dbehman

No, it's not an issue.

http://camstudio.org/faq.htm#MCI

When you record using MCI, it's the same as if you recorded your audio using Windows Sound Recorder and no compression is applied to it.

I just noticed a possible problem. When using MCI Recording, it seems that the recorded audio is always PCM 44kHz 16bit stereo regardless of what I set in the Audio Options for Microphone dialog box (both recording format and compressed format sections). Is this a known issue?
