Audio - Video Desynchronization

February 21st, 2007 · 8 Comments

I was doing some research on this subject the other day as I keep getting emails from CS users saying that the audio keeps desynchronizing from the video …

It seems as though when you drop down the audio sample rate to 22,050Hz, it increases the chances of audio/video desynch …

I’m recording some test videos but I was wondering if anyone else has come across this before and is it true?

Hey Nick. Thanks for a great app.

I’ve been doing some quick and dirty screen casts with CS and has experienced an audio desyncronization.

I can’t recall my settings but in 2 min I got about a second or two off.

It seemed like the audio compression failed after I had stopped recording and it was saving of the file.

I’m sorry I can’t give you more detailed recollection of what I did. But figured I’d let you know that I’ve experienced it.

Thanks for the good work :)

I need some assistance with some technical problems I’m having with CS. (Sorry for putting this here as a comment, but I don’t seem to have access to be able to add my own entry to this blog.)
I realise that CamStudio is freeware, but I’m wondering if there is somewhere I can ‘go’ to ask questions about some problems I’m having - eg. trying to save a file and CS puts up an error message telling me I’m not allowed to copy/rename that file - all I want to do is save/name a new file. I have to cancel and lose what I’ve recorded.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks
    Christine

whitelitnin; I am having a similar problem and getting the same error message. I’m tiring to run CamStudio on a new MS Vista machine, it is recording but when I playback the recording the picture is jumpy and the sound is nothing but static with no legible sound. Does anyone have any suggestions for a workaround?
    Thank You
    John P.

I used to have that problem until I read the manual. I just selected a codec. The initial settings for the video options made divx crash. I modified some values randomly and it worked but then the audio video wasn’t in sync. I read the manual and found out my input rate was different than my output rate, meaning I was doing some kind of a time lapse effect. It works fine if I set it to capture every 50 milliseconds and output at 20 frames per second. They frame rate has to be mathematically correct with the input rat.

    Hello,

I’m from germany and I have a problem with the output file after recording.

Here is a screenshot off the output videofile: http://www.fanplex.de/fun/fault.jpg

I used the Microsoft Video 1 Codec with the same options like on my other workstation.

On the workstation with Windows XP it works very well without faults.

But I installed CS now on my new laptop with Windows Vista, and this fault is the result.

I can watch the avi-File in the Mediaplayer without fauls… but when I want to convert it into the SWF-File, the SWF Producer shows me this outputvideo: http://www.fanplex.de/fun/fault.jpg

The produced flashfile is also not correct… so is there a chioce to fix that problem?

Is CS running with Windows Vista???

I also used the own CS Codec, but the fault is the same.

Thanks for a response or help!

    Bye,
    MrAttitude

    Dear ‘Mrattitude’,

Camstudio does not work with Vista properly. The reason your getting that problem is because, Vista have different graphic drivers already installed and is close to impossiable on getting rid of them. Since this happens Camstudio looks for Windows Xp drivers and if not found will function on it’s own recording system. Classical problems such as this one is a real pain. My suggestion would be to use Camstudio ONLY on Windows Xp and below.

I got the WaveoutGetSelectControl() failed error too, but I found a semi-good solution, so good that I signed up just to share.

Camstudio doesn’t support the new Vista speaker drivers, BUT, it does support the microphone port. I had a chord that could connect my speaker port to the mic port and decided to give it a try, and it worked! I could hear sound in the recording I made while the mic port was connected to the audio-out port.

Of course, if you want to record your voice AND your compy, I’d suggest getting a sound card with an extra mic port.

Good luck to you all out there, and thank you devs for providing an open-source alternative to the over-priced FRAPS and Camtasia.
