Possible Workaround For “Waveout” Error on Vista?

March 14th, 2008 · 18 Comments

“mcclenj” just posted this as a comment, which I thought I’d post here so everyone can see it …

Okay, this is TOTALLY the solution for Vista users, anyone who gets the “WaveoutGet…blah blah” error, who only hears static on the audio, etc. At least it worked for me.

All you gotta do is open up your Sound control panel, click on the “Recording” tab, then right-click anywhere in the menu that shows all your recording devices. You should see the options “Show Disabled Devices” and “Show Disconnected Devices” each with or without a check-mark. Make it so that both of these are checked, especially Disabled Devices, and a new item should appear, the “Stereo Mix”. Once that’s enabled, and your other microphone(s) are disabled, CamStudio works FINE as if it was recording from speakers.

AWESOME. And I’m totally un-technologically savvy, just lucked onto this, so take that all you programmers and dorks. That is, if it works for anybody else.

OK, peeps - is “mcclenj” a superstar or does he suck like a Dyson on steroids? Test the method and vote below … ;)

P.S. Got some really cool news coming soon - keep ‘em peeled …

Is there any way to record audio after you have recorded the video on 2.0?

Hey, just a bug report; I’ve got about 600 megs plus of hot high quality webcam pornage sitting in limbo I hit stop and BAM: -

File Creation Error. Unable to rename/copy file. File may be opened by another application. Please use another filename.

Is this a common bug? Saw one guy on the net looking for a solution (googled’ the keywords) and he got no help anywhere, on two big forums. So figured I’d come to the source and ask, any idea? It has something to do with qsr.exe or something like that? How can I recover my hotpr0n? :(

Hello, regarding the autopan feature… Is there a way to make it so that the cursor is always centred? I kind of don’t like how it has to get near an edge for the region being recorded to start moving. If not then that’s cool I’ll just use what I got. Anyways, thanks for the cool program and maybe keep this as a little note for something in the future? Later!

^_^ Yep. It works in every sound-recording program. This method also works in Win98SE, as it also has Volume Control for Recording, even without a Mic disabled or something (theres an enable/disable in Vista!? o.o;). We’ve been doing this method for a long time now, far before I read this topic.

But anyway, thanks for confirming it also works in CamStudio.

So like, in general, when we’re recording audio by any software (even in MS’s own Sound Recorder!), we should check the select checkbox of the one in the Recording Control window (Stereo Mixer, Mic, Line In, etc) we like recording sound from.

This suggestion helped - fixed the problem. I actually got CS to record via the speaker trick thanks to someone on Youtube. Later it did not work - followed what it said here - thanks to yet another person who posted the info & link @ Yahoo! Answers. Thanks very much and CamStudio was a great find.

    “WaveoutGet” error.
Go to Audio options for mictorphone and choose the appropriate device (in my case Realtek HD Audio Input). You can then record sound.

Someone should put this in the help files.

Uh, I’m still getting the WaveoutGet error. Is there anything else I need to do? I’m running an Acer Aspire 5735Z with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. Thanks
