Hi All
I know it’s been a while since I posted, and 2.5’s release has fallen behind again (yes, Dai I’m still on it) but I’ll have some good news for you in the next couple of days …
In the meantime, I thought I’d share the lovely letter I got from a charming individual called “Adolf” and my response to it …
FROM: Adolf
SUBJECT LINE: CAMSTUDIO IS A HEAP OF SHITI think the reason u dont want to be contacted through your email is because you do not like getting told that your programs are a heap of SHIT and track crtiticses IPs, and complain.
[He/She then posts a copy of a bounce message they got sending an email to a CamStudio email address that doesn't exist and also includes a copy of another email sent to a programmer of a similar product to CamStudio.]
Hello *******
thanks for your reply. I tried Camstudio and think its a heap of shit, because it does not work. I tried 3 different media players to record from using Camstudio and each time it recorded a black screen where a avi
movie was playing. I also dod not understand why they speak double dutch, i checked thier website
http://www.camstudio.org/ they say it totaly free under gnu, but have a registration icon on the program itself. The other thing is with your ******* program it works fantastic for 30 seconds and records all my avi movies using any media player, its a pitty that I do not have a credit card and the internet connected at home. If I see your full ******* program in a shop one day ,I will definetly buy it.
My reply …
Adolf
Let me just take a few seconds to answer the points in your lovely email.
1. You think CamStudio is a piece of shit … OK, that’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. But don’t tell me, tell RenderSoftware and Web Publishing (http://www.rendersoftware.com) they’re the people that created it in the first place.
2. The reason I don’t like to be contacted by email is that I work fulltime online and if I have to stop to answer dozens of emails sitting in my Inbox it stops me from earning a living. Sorry if that offends you in any way.
3. I never programmed, nor had any part in the creation of CamStudio so technically it’s not *my* program. Whatever support I give is limited to whatever knowledge I’ve picked up over the years using CamStudio.
4. I’m sorry you feel that CamStudio wasn’t up to your usual high standards, if you’d like to forward me a copy of your email receipt, I’ll issue an immediate refund … Oh wait a minute … YOU DIDN’T PAY FOR IT, DID YOU?
5. You bitch about how you can’t record from 3 media players – all you get is a black screen – did it even occur to you to check the FAQ (http://www.camstudio.org/faq.htm) where – shock, horror – it answers that very question – DISABLE HARDWARE ACCELERATION IN WINDOWS!!
(NOTE: Please people … I cannot tell you how many emails I still get about this … READ THE FAQ!!!)
No, thought not … that would take a miniscule amount of intelligence to read the homepage and find the link to the FAQ, wouldn’t it?
6. And again, if you took the time to read the homepage, you’d know that the version of CamStudio that has registration is nothing to do with me. V2.0 doesn’t require any form of registration or payment.
Next time, before sending an abusive email to someone, double check you’ve got all your facts correct otherwise you just end up looking like the TWAT you are.
Oh and have the balls to use a real email address, next time
Lots of love
Nick ![]()

Hi, don’t listen to such people. I would like to thank you for your effort. I’m waiting for new version
.
The lossless camstudio codec seem to not work with windows x64. If there’s anyone who have the same problem I recommend to use free MSU codec, works like a charm – http://www.compression.ru/video/ls-codec/index_en.html
Anyone knows a freeware application similar to camtasia producer ? I need to resize, speedup and compress my screen recordings.

Wow I could barley understand what he wrote due to the fact he had no grammar. Anyways, don’t listen to that guy. It’s his problem he can’t get Camstudio to work, the fact he didn’t even read a FAQ. People like him should be punished from this site.
His problem is the hardware acceleration due to the fact that enables
different graphic types on different programs, games, and even hardware.
Dear Zmdl,
The lossless codec does not work on Windows version 64 because there is different graphic hardware installed in the OS. The drivers are can not be uninstalled. Continue to use the MSU codec or call up a Hardware technician to get the driver uninstalled by and expert.

I completely agree. Do not listen to people like that . He or she who knows! should be grateful that a neat and wonderful application like camstudio is available for free and that smart people like you are willing to make it better and share it with the rest of us.
Thank you for all the work you put on it. I am very excited about the new version that is coming up.
THANKS AGAIN

Nick let me say your reply was too nice for a shit-head like that. People like this don’t do their part to learn about the software and are too quick to blame the program and fail to realize their inability to read or think.
Have you tried 2.5 with windows Vista, I am planning to upgrade to Vista and I noticed that one of the guys was having a problem working with the current version camstudio on Vista OS.
thanks, and keep up the good work

Dai: Thanks, I tried vdub before, but I had some serious problems with vfw codecs. The solution was to install vdub32 instead of 64bit version. Everything works fine now

Hi Everyone
Thanks for your supportive comments … it means a lot …
@Kiran – thanks to a kindly coder called Marcus, he’s got CamStudio running on Vista AND added dual-monitor support.
As soon as I get the EXEs and source code, I’m uploading them to SourceForge so everyone can have a play.
Cheers
Nick

I feel your pain. With 20,000 customers I occasionally get trolls calling me on my toll free line to tell me my software is a piece of s__t because it doesn’t do feature X like they think it should.
I marvel at how you create software without being a programmer. I will have to try my hand at that.

I make video tutorials on youtube. I get a lot of stupid ass comments including unintelligible video responses rambling in heavy Mississippi accent crazy accusations. I think you spent too much time on that guy. There’s people blame others for their own incompetence or shortcomings. It’s just a common personality of the typical asshole, and it’s about 1/4 people.

There are so many people with there grammar wrong. Can you blame them? Actually you can. Some people are rushing and are in a hurry to do something, that I understand, others just do it because they don’t care. Whatever your typing on the Internet, other people need to actually understand you. I’m not saying that I have perfect grammar, because I make mistakes every now and then, but I watch what I write. So many hot heads that don’t understand anything thats happening in the complex world.

Some people get so excited.
Its just software at the end of the day.
There is no need to swear.
*sigh*.
Anyway, do you know when version 2.5 of this software is going to be released, just a general time period. I just saw the video on YouTube regarding it.
Just ignore the guy with the complaints.
I think if you have problems with a software, especially one you have not paid for you should ask for either bugs to be fixed or features to be added and know that they take time to fix/implement.
Cool software b.t.w
See ya Later

Hello,
Does the 2.0 program have a recording time limit?
Used the program defaults and recorded from speaker.
After successfully recording for an hour and 30 minutes, I give the file a new name and save it. Then up comes the error “unable to open video file” followed by the playplus error ” file just recorded is not found” and the file is gone.
Any help is appreciated, thanks

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to 2.5. Don’t know how you do it.

Recently my motherboard got fried and had to be replaced. I ended up losing a lot of data and programs, including CamStudio. I found and installed the infamous version 2.1 first. When I started it and realized it was the crappy version, I thought for sure the 2.0 version would surly be unattainable. Luckily, you saw the value of the project and are keeping it alive. Thanks for your work and I’m excited to see what the 2.5 version brings. Thanks again.
PS: I agree with Coldblade about grammar. I get annoyed when someone writes something so poorly that it has to be re-read multiple times to understand what is being said. Oddly enough, his/her posting was riddled with grammatical errors. (Ex: there instead of their, your instead of you’re…2 pet peeves of mine) Sorry Coldblade, I thought it was ironic (in the Alanis Morisette sense) that you had errors in your posting about bad grammar. I can’t wait to see the errors I made in this posting that will undoubtedly be pointed out.

Cam Studio does exactly what it says on the tin. Thank you.
I downloaded the program and the additional codecs about an hour ago and have since created a tutorial on 90% on the basic usage of one of the Open Source CMS packages I use for small business websites. I did this on an XP box and had exactly no problems whatsoever.
You describe Cam Studio as “CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs)” and that is exactly what it does.
Lastly, I need to say that perhaps I am unusual, but when I need a pen I do not feel the need for ask which end I should press against the paper or even what paper is. I certainly don’t need to slag off the messanger for my inabilty to understand the written word. Frankly I just read the instructions. Your instructions say it all.
Well done on posting the juvenile rantings of someone who obviously has no need for this tool.
Thank you again.
Alex

Hi Nick,
I recently tried CamStudio, and I love it. Thanks for sharing CamStudio with us. I have made my own video using CamStudio for the first time. (you can click here to have a look.) It is about how I celebrate my country’s independent’s day. I am studying oversea, so I can’t join any parade, I just open my Firefox, go to YouTube, find my national anthem, and play it. All this was recorded with CamStudio. I am very happy with it
I have just noticed that you have a blog for CamStudio, and I think it is good indeed. I see lots of discussion around the blog and also updated news as well. I get some clue from the blog about the problem I cannot record sounds from my speaker. I would suggest that a wiki page to be set up for making online help available, so I have set up a wiki here at http://camstudio.wiki.zoho.com. This is a free service offer by Zoho, and I hope that every fans can help to edit it.
Nice day.
