FPS patch for CamCommandLine http://camstudio.org/forum/discussion/606/fps-patch-for-camcommandline Thu, 24 Feb 2011 05:11:49 -0500 sbeschke 606@/forum/discussions
I've recently had to use CamCommandLine to make screen videos in an automated manner, and in the process I fixed the faulty handling of frame times that only allowed recording with high framerates. Arbitrary (integer) frame rates are now possible. I've posted the patch at https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3191059&group_id=131922&atid=722681. To quote:

The version of CamCommandLine that is in r310 handles timing in a faulty manner, meaning that frames will only be written properly as long as frames are dropped, i.e. the desired framerate is higher than the framerate with which frames can actually be written. If the framerate is lower than that, gaps in the video file occur.
The attached patch fixes this problem by reworking the mechanism in which timing is handled, also saving CPU time by using Sleep() to wait for the next frame if necessary. This enables arbitrary frame rates to be used.
Also, a -fps command line argument is added for setting the desired frame rate.

CS Observations and bugs http://camstudio.org/forum/discussion/793/cs-observations-and-bugs Wed, 17 Aug 2011 12:01:05 -0400 kamr 793@/forum/discussions
few things...

on win (7) it does not respect temp environment variable. in my case my temp files are written to another drive and CS ignores this and writes to c:\windows\temp

i think it would nice when you draw a custom size area to capture, the rectangle would 'snap' to the nearest dimension divisible by 2 to avoid errors with codecs/settings that require a particular ratio, such as xvid HD 720. snapping to nearest compatible size might also be good for YouTube users, etc.

personally, i find the flashing rectangle annoying/distracting. if one is interested in FPS, which is what the flashing seems to represent (?), a small number could be drawn in a corner instead

if you draw a custom size rec and it's not compatible the codec, you get the error msg but also the rectangle remains visible on the screen

in the UI menu, the "Help" menu is wrapped to the next line and appears under the "File" menu (this is with default font and font size selected in windows, EN)

the Help > Help menu item does not open the included help file

putting the UI in one of the mini modes is nice, but then you cannot see if you're recording AVI of FLV - i think the icon should change to indicate this

if you have 2+ hotkeys set to NONE, with all boxes unchecked (meaning hotkey is disabled) you can't save and get an error about conflicting keys]]>

Building the project. A more accurate howto is required http://camstudio.org/forum/discussion/744/building-the-project.-a-more-accurate-howto-is-required Fri, 15 Jul 2011 05:41:31 -0400 zencd 744@/forum/discussions I'm trying to build the CamStudio project. With no success for a while.

1) I downloaded Visual Studio C++ Express 2010. Ok.

2) Then I downloaded CxImage (full version is required, right?) and libconfig sources.

3) Now I should build every 3rd party solution. There are 20 of them! Should I build them all?

4) Anyway, building one of CxImage solutions I find RC.EXE is unable to find WINRES.H. Where should I download it from? Ok, I investigted Windows 2003 Platform SDK contains it. I've downloaded PDSK although the number of 2003 looks a bit outdated for me. Then I set env var INCLUDE to a directory where that header file is located but with no success. Could you assist me in that?]]>

Add TrueType fonts you like for your console font (cmd console) to the registry by entering new string entries to the following key:

Example:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Console\TrueTypeFont] "000000"="Envy Code R"

(The Zeros can be any unique number.)

Replace the string "Envy Code R" with the desired font's name spelled as you see it in the font menu.

You still have to manually change the default font via the drop-down list - this merely adds the font to the list of available fonts.

What drop-down list? In the CMD window, click the upper-right-hand corner icon and select "Defaults" and go to the Fonts tab - that's where you select your fonts from the list of available fonts.

Also, by adding Tamsyn and Terminus, they will appear in the Raster Fonts listing (under the size-numbered entries that appear).]]>
Discontinue CamCodec? http://camstudio.org/forum/discussion/250/discontinue-camcodecs Thu, 12 Nov 2009 14:48:17 -0500 BleeBlap 250@/forum/discussions
The only reason I see to continue supporting camcodec is that it guarantees that our users have a lossless codec installed on their system. If we included another open source (or maybe even freeware) codec in our installation it would be one less thing for our tiny / non-existent development team to maintain.

I've only done some research but, Lagarith (http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html) seems like a decent choice if we do replace camcodec.

Anybody have any other complaints about discontinuing CamCodec in future releases or suggestions for a lossless codec that could replace it?]]>

Develop video editing feature http://camstudio.org/forum/discussion/145/develop-video-editing-feature Fri, 29 May 2009 16:28:28 -0400 giulio8 145@/forum/discussions "I'd like to develop a new feature, if I can:
adding screen annotation after recording.
One could modify the player or develop a standalone program like the swf producer.
I think the second option is my better choice because the source does not compile under vs2008.
In a week I should start reading and analysing the code, I will try to reuse as much as possible.
The new editor program should play and stop the video, as the current player already does (I think I should just copy this).
Then one could create the annotation (using the cam studio main, nothing to do, maybe...) and put it on the video window
And the new editor program should overlap the original video with the annotation (I have to figure out how), then save.
My objective is not loosing the quality of the original video, but only overwriting the image where the annotation is placed...
I've not yet started, it is just an idea...
:-)"
Please note: I'm not sure whether there is information loss in the codec from the screen capture's data to the avi.
If this is the case, the player and editing feature should be incorporated in the camstudio and not in a separated program because you should be able to play and edit before saving to file. So, if encoding the video and decoding it again is not like zipping and unzipping, a brand new version of camstudio may be needed...
... that is a bit more effort :-)]]>
CamStudio 2.5 Beta 1 - Spanish translation / Traducci http://camstudio.org/forum/discussion/22/camstudio-2.5-beta-1-spanish-translation-traducci Sat, 23 Feb 2008 23:48:29 -0500 7Orfeo7 22@/forum/discussions Since I'm a big fan of this program, I decided to make my little contribution by translating CamStudio to Spanish. My motivation was that I recommended this program to many people, but half of them weren't able to use it (or at least make full use of all its capabilities) only because of language-related problems. I hope this may be of help to all Spanish users facing the same situation.
The link below is a repacked "CamStudio.2.5.b1.bin.zip", in which I just replaced some of the original files with those I translated in order to have everything in spanish (Recorder.exe, Player.exe, Playplus.exe, Producer.exe, CamShapes.ini and default.shapes).

There are some bugs I'd like to fix WRT the ini/param file stuff in version 2.6.
