    Hi guys , i am unable to see any installed codecs from the Options --> Video Options --> Compression drop list.
    I have installed the divx codecs and ffdshow codecs but i can't see them on that drop list.
    Is there anyway to get Camstudio , find those codecs manually ? As Camstudio can't find it automatically on my system.

    I have installed and re-install version 2.0 , 2.1 and 2.5 still have the same problem. At the moment i am backusing version 2.0

    I have windows Xp proffessional SP2 .

    Here is a screen shot ( nb : i have divx and ffdshow codes already installed )

    The only thing I can think of is to delete the INI configuration files in C:\Program Files\CamStudio and let CamStudio recreate them from scratch.

    Since 2.5 is just extracted to a folder without installation, delete the INI files from there and restart the 2.5b to see if that finds them.

    If that doesn't work, I don't have a clue ... anyone?

    Thanks for your advices , i have deleted all *.ini files and let Camstudio recreate them after re-start but unfortunately did not work.
    I hope anyone could come with a solution... Or even an hint to find how that drop list get populated.

    Hi mkekams,

    I don't think there's any way to manually install the codecs into CamStudio, as far as I can tell CamStudio accesses codecs through Microsoft's VfW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_for_Windows) framework.

    It's interesting that the CamStudio lossless codec is showing up in your video options, but none of the other codecs you installed are. Are you sure the other codecs were properly installed, eg: can any other applications access/use the installed codecs? Have you install a bunch of different video players/codecs/codec packs on your machine? Sometimes conflicting/broken codec installs can prevent some (if not all) applications from being able to use those codecs. If this is the case, you may want to look at these articles:

    You may also need a registry cleaner like "CCleaner" or similar to fix issues like these.

    Off topic a bit, but why SP2 and not SP3?

    Yes , other applications can access Divx or ffdshow . The lossless codec that you see there does not work when
    i select it, i get an error message saying "the selected codec has a problem or so.. and i should select yes to switch to the default one". when ignoring the message nothing happen and when clicking yes , i get switch to the default.

    yes , i think i have like 5 different players on my machine , i will try to use "CCleaner" as in your suggestion. I am using SP2 on this machine because a always avoid new software installation.
