Camstudio AVI Files won't play in WMM - FIXED

edited July 2010 in Announcements
Hello,

I just recorded an AVI file using Camstudio Lossless Codec 1.4.
When I import it into Windows Movie Maker it imports just fine. But the video is black. The audio is there but the video is not.

The video plays perfectly in Windows Media Player

When I drag it into the timeline it automatically goes into the Audio slot. I only have this problem using Camstudio Lossless Codec 1.4
Other codecs work fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

  • Also I just found out that this happens when I record with my speakers.

When I select the "Do not record audio" option and record my video, I get an error in Windows MM that says that the codec is not recognized.
  • I have been trying to figure this error out all day.

It seems that when I record my videos with sound from the speakers and import them to Windows Movie Maker, all I get is audio and no video.

When I try to record my video's without audio and import them into WMM, it gives me this error:

The file C:\Users\XXXXXXXX\Documents\XXXXXXXX\test50.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

    Thanks in advance! =)

I'm aware of this error, although I don't know the reason why as Windows Mediaplayer can play them fine, so not sure why WMM can't.

What versions of Windows and WMM are you using?

    Cheers

  • I have found the solution.
This solution is for Windows Vista x64 Users

    1. MAKE SURE you uninstall all your codecs
    2. Next, download the links below, in the same order they are listed.

    Link 1: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5326
    Link 2: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5535

    3. Restart your computer
    4. Start Windows Movie Maker and go to Tools>Options>Compatibility and make sure all the filters are ticked.
    5. Now try uploading your video's, it should work now.

    Thanks

    Thanks for posting the solution.

If anyone with 32-bit Windows XP, Vista or 7 machine is successfully able to fix this problem please post here.

I personally can already import CamStudio AVIs into Windows Movie Maker Live and "regular" Windows Movie Maker (Windows Vista Home Premium SP2).

Video Codecs listed on my system:

    Microsoft Video 1
    Intel IYUV codec V2.00.0.00
    Cinepak Codec by Radius v1.10.0.11
    Techsmith Screen Capture Codec (v2.0.6)
    ffdshow Video Codec (revision 2527 - Dec 17 2008)
    CamStudio Lossless Codec v1.5
DivX 6.8.5 Codec (2 Logical CPUs)
    inno Screen Capture Codec 1.80
    Intel Indeo Video 4.5

    Cheers

  • I have one last question Nick, how did you get Camstudio Lossless Codec 1.5?

    Thanks
  • Actually, the CamStudio Lossless Codec shows in the drop-down window as version 1.5, so probably that really is just a typo somewhere on the various websites (sourceforge doesn't even have 1.4 - only 1.1!)

    This: http://camstudio.org/CamStudioCodec14.zip
    and this: http://camstudio.org/CamStudioCodec14.exe
appear to be the latest files available (both hosted directly from camstudio.org, apparently!)
