We are brand new

My 9 year old daughter really wants to use this to record Nancy Drew PC games. We're a little bit lost - do we need a microphone or can we just use the speakers on our computer?

    If you can enable stereo mix, you can get the sound directly from the game. Watch these videos (depending upon your operating system)

    Windows XP:



    Windows 7 (mic inclusion is optional):



    On XP machines, you may have to set the "Hardware Acceleration" setting in the "Troubleshooting" tab to at least "minus-3" to avoid getting only a black-screen showing in your recording. This video shows how to do that.
