Do you know how to tap into the operating system hooks for the screen saver routines, so you can get that piece of data? I know it is used by the system to return one to the login screen if you have that option selected, but have never encountered anyone exploiting it for any other purpose. Find that out first - connecting that to the record or pause/unpause routines in CamStudio will be the easier part.
Look into how to write a screensaver and find all kinds of stuff, perhaps, including how to detect that the screensaver has started or stopped.
