Adding to Video.

Hi All,

If I've saved a tutorial, how do I add to the end of it,
to make a longer tutorial at a later date.

Cheers.

  • As long as you keep the AVI-file, basically any video editing software. One good and free alternative is Virtualdub, from http://virtualdub.org/. Open the first part of the tutorial in Vdub, and add the other part using File --> Append AVI segment.

If both parts are recorded using the same settings and codec, I think maybe you can export a file without reencoding, by selecting «Direct stream copy» from the Video-menu, before going to File --> Save. I'm not sure about this though, it may well be that when appending segments you have to reencode.

If you have to, or want to, reencode the video, select «Full processing mode» from the Video-menu, and go to Video --> Compression to choose a codec. Vdub is good for encoding video - I use it for encoding screencasts.

Virtualdub is the only one I use, for compressing I've not played with the settings. I'll have ago with what you said.

    Cheers.

    Hi All,

How do I over come it?,
    I've re encoded bothe Videos.

    Cheers.
  • Looks like there is a difference in the framerate between the two videos, so you would have to change the framerate of one of them to match the other. There are some choices for this in Virtualdub, in Video --> Frame Rate. If you have audio as well, I think there would be problems with desynchronization -- how to handle that I don't know, framerate conversion is not something I know much about.

One option might be to use VirtualDub to save all videos to uncompressed audio/video and then recode them.

Not the most elegant solution but you'd stand a good chance of getting everything working together.

    Cheers
