An awesome video transcoder
Hello,
I'm a very new user of CamStudio and this is my first post. I know how frustrating video work can be so I thought I would share my story.
A couple of weeks ago I had a need to convert 57 avi files totaling a little over 4 hours of recording time. Seemed like a daunting task since I am far from being a video whiz kid. Luckily I found a very awesome video transcoder that worked great and was very fast I thought. I was able to convert to .mp4 at a rate of 22 seconds per recorded minute.
As you can imagine at that rate the conversions I had to do were done in short order. I don't have much experience when it comes to transcoders but there seems to be quite a few features and options. The really cool part was that it was free!! After using it these guys should definitely be charging for this product.
Here is the link http://handbrake.fr/
I know - HandBrake seems like an odd name but it is what it is. I hope you have as much success with this program as I have had.

I'll have to compare it with Any Video Converter and VirtualDub. Thanks for letting us know about this one!

Thanks for the reply. I like what I see with the any-video-converter. I don't think the Handbrake has the editing capabilities.

http://digitizeworld.com/1440%20x%20900%20YouTube%20Test-1.m4v - 5.88mb Total @ 1440 x 900 - 50secs
Here's what my recording produced
CamStudio Lossless codec= 20mb file
Opened with Virtualdub and exported as uncompressed .avi = 36.4GB file
Edited and encoded with Adobe Premiere CS5 = 120mb file @ 1440 x 900 - 50secs - Progressive scan mpeg
Finally, encoded with Handbrake, using my custom settings = 5.88mb Total @ 1440 x 900 - 50secs
That is terrific looking! Just under 6 megs - that's really an awesome workflow. I'm going to give it a try!
