Issues with saving cam studio files

hey, I have been trying to record various windows and screen regions yet when I finish the recording wether it would be in avi format or mp4 it wont save. if it's recording in avi when it pops to save it doesn't give me a choice for file type so it stays empty. and if im recording in mp4 it tells me failed to start mp4 converter. Can someone please help me with this issue as I want to start recording on my pc.

The MP4 converter is crashing on many people's computers, so I recommend against using that option for now. You might even want to go back to the previous version so the function key hotkeys work again. http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/files/stable/CamStudio_2.7_r316_setup.exe/download (You can have both versions installed if you install to a different folder than the one you have already.)

The Flash/SWF and MP4 recorders both actually convert an AVI, so the 2-GB file size restraint holds even for those. Use a codec like Xvid or X.264vfw for best results and longer recordings.

thank you I will try using the older version as even a 10 second recording doesn't want to save.

That's odd! Try changing the default saving location in Options/Program Options for temp files, and change the name part to "Ask for filename" so you can save the video wherever you want it. And stick with AVI - MP4 is definitely not working consistently for some reason (which is odd, because it is merely a script for FFMPEG that converts an AVI...)
