Error creating AVI file

edited May 2010 in Support
There have been several postings on this topic. I have tried all the solutions (making sure that the Region has even numbers divisible by 4 etc.) without success.
There has to be a solution to this. I am not a techie, just someone who wants to USE the software.
I followed the download instructions to the letter.
Anybody out there know what the problem is?

  • Hi Julian

Please give as much detail as possible.

What version of Windows are you using?

What are your video and audio settings in CamStudio?

    Which codec are you using?

What are you trying to record?
  • This happens to me when I have "Record Audio from Microphone" checked. The audio recording doesn't seem to work in CamStudio, so I record it at the same time that I'm recording using Audacity, and combine it with Virtual Dub.
  • @ THEAniKan

Audio recording works fine for most people. It sounds like on your machine, the settings just need to be fine-tuned.
  • Thanks for the replies, and sorry for the time taken to respond.
I am using XP professional SP3 on a Thinkpad T61
The Camstudio setting is Fixed Region, and the video settings are:
Codec: Microsoft Video 1 (I get the same error if I use Camstudio 1.4)
    Quality: 70
    Key frames every 200
    Capture rate 5
    Playback rate 200
    Auto adjust: on
    max framerate: 1/minute
I am trying to record screen activity within commercial ERP software, but haven't yet got beyond launching Camstudio.
  • Hi Julian

Can you try these settings and let us know?

Fixed Region: 640x480 and repeat with 800x600
Codec: Either or repeat with both
    Quality: 70
    Key frames every 20
    Capture rate 50
    Playback rate 20

    Auto-adjust = off

    Thanks

    Nick :o)
  • Hi,

I had this same problem until yesterday. When I pressed the record button, I got that error message as well.
It seems that my registry was corrupted somehow and after I ran the correction, recording started working.

You can find the instructions from here: http://camstudio.org/faq.htm#Error

    Hope this helps.
