How to Install the LAME MP3 Audio compressor?

edited April 2011 in Support
Hello!,
I have learned that most of the size of a Video is due to AUDIO!!. Impressing ... and that the LAME Compressor is the best one in order to reduce the final file size of a video, but if I click in AUDIO Options for Microphone using CamStudio v2.6 r294 I only see the PCM compressor format, not any optioon to choose, then I should like to heard what the experts says regarding LAME compressor and how to install it with success in Windows Vista x64 -- thanks!.
Best rgards,
Blas.

  • (Actually, I've heard that the AC3 compressor was preferable, though I do not know why entirely...)

You can install both using the K-Lite Full or Mega Codec Packs.
Full: http://www.free-codecs.com/k_lite_codec_pack_download.htm (be sure to select the "Full" one)
    Mega: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_mega_codec_pack.htm

Scroll down and look for the "ACM Codecs".

Do not be tempted to install all of these codecs!!!

Watch my video for the how-to advice:

My problem with using LAME has always been that I found the videos drifted out of sync, even following the advice of keeping the "Capture Frames Every" times the "Playback Rate" summing to 1000. I have not tried AC3 to see if it fares any better. But try both and test them to see if one works better than the other.

I do not know why LAME has been causing the sync drift, but it is obvious in my testing after only five minutes. I use the "Use MCI for Recording Audio" setting pretty much always, as LAME had let me down pretty badly.
