Lossless codec not working

edited May 2011 in Support
I'm trying to use the lossless codec with Camstudio. I must point out that I had to play around with it to get it to show up in the first place. http://camstudio.org/forum/discussion/310/lossless-codec-not-showing-up/p1

Now the videos that I get are flashing black screens with occasional glimpses of actual content

    qwertymk,

You may using Camstudio Lossless Codec for an application for which it is not well suited (OR trying to play back your videos using VLC Media Player - which they admit has a bug that won't play CamStudio lossless for some reason - they are trying to fix it on their end.)

CamStudio Lossless is intended for static screens with some mouse movement on them. Use Lagarith Lossless (for a lossless codec) or the "lossy" codecs Xvid (for free) or Divx (for $20) if you are capturing high-motion screens.

Noted, thanks. Also is there any way to get H264 to work in Camstudio using x264vfw64 ?
  • qwertymk,

x264 was last seen working in version 2.6 r264 (the first 2.6 public build). I've used that build several times and had no issues, so give it a try. It is at the download site.

It is quirky how some codecs appear and disappear from Camstudio. Here are screenshots taken minutes apart of four versions/builds of Camstudio and the codecs listed: http://screencasttutorial.org/camstudioversions.html
